A tree trimmer in Littleton was killed on Wednesday after the articulated boom he was in snapped and he fell about 30 feet. The Denver Post is reporting that the accident happened at about noon in the 5200 block of South Sherman Street. Littleton Fire Bureau Chief Jay Ruoff said the man was being lowered in the bucket when “basically the arm on the truck broke and came down and he was thrown out.”
According to the Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries, from 1992 to 2007, a total of 1,285 people were killed in tree-trimming accidents nationwide. Of these deaths, 42 percent occurred when a person was hit by a falling tree or branch. Another 34 percent were killed by a fall from a tree, while 14 percent were killed by electrocution.
