Borders will be closing yet another store in Colorado. This will be the seventh store that has closed in Colorado, since Borders announced its bankruptcy in February. In fact, the Park Meadows mall will be one of 51 stores across the United States that could be closing this summer. Borders claim that they are in the process of negotiating in order to prevent many of their stores from closing. In February, Borders filed for a Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and they have until the end of June to secure the 51 stores in question or they will be forced to close them.
Borders plans to use this bankruptcy as a wake-up call and reorganize the stores that they have left. In order for the company to regain its success they had to close 200 stores immediately. Borders had to make this business move in order to prevent all of their 642 stores from closing. Luckily, many companies do actually bounce back after filing a Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and Borders hopes to be one of them. Once Borders is able to rebuild the stores they have left they will be able to expand their company once again.

One of Colorado’s largest electronics retailers is set to close its doors. Ultimate Electronics filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on January 26 in U.S. Bankruptcy Court. The Denver Post is reporting that several children were taken to the hospital after their school bus crashed Thursday afternoon. The accident happened at around 4:30 p.m. at Colorado Boulevard and 29th Street when the bus and a mini-van collided. Twenty-nine children were on the bus at the time of the collision. Seven of those students were taken to the hospital with minor injuries for observation.
Bus accident statistics are limited; however, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System data for 1993 to 1997 shows that 141 buses were involved in accidents that resulted in the deaths of 21 occupants and injuries to 442 occupants.

A Cherry Creek bus driver was cited early this morning for “failing to yield the right of way.” The driver’s failure resulted in an accident that left two students injured. According to a report by The Denver Post, the students were not seriously injured and both were treated and released at the scene. One student, a 17-year-old from Regis High School, was driving a Jeep Liberty that crashed into the bus. The other student was a middle school student who was riding on the bus. It is unclear at this time if the bus driver will be allowed to continue his driving duties.
Thankfully, the school buses many of our children ride on everyday are some of the safest vehicles on the road. Compared to every other vehicle on the road the yellow school bus is the least likely vehicle to be involved in an accident. This means that fewer people are injured and die in accidents involving a school bus. According to a report by the NHTSA that spanned 13 years from 1991-2004, an average of 12 people a year died in school bus related accidents. There simply is no comparison when evaluating death tolls involving any other vehicle on the road.
To say that yellow school buses are the safest vehicles on the road is not to say that they aren’t ever involved in accidents. As the account of the accident above attests, it is possible for a child to be injured in a school bus accident. If your child has been involved in an accident while riding a school bus, you need to speak to a Parker personal injury attorney about all your legal options. Parker attorney, Brian Daniel, has the knowledge and experience you need. Contact his offices today at (303) 951-0233.

According to KDVR (Fox31), 3 officers have been charged in an assault and cover up case in Arvada. Whitney Bauma and Noah Rolfing have been charged with “failing to report, official misconduct and false reporting” and Charles Humphrey faces the same charges plus a “misdemeanor assault” charge. All 3 officers have resigned from their positions. Arvada Police have been under heavy scrutiny as of late, facing two lawsuits for two prior cases of brutality and officer misconduct. Charles Humphrey, it turns out, was involved in both of those cases as well.
Expert Law claims that assault involves an “intentional, unlawful threat or “offer” to cause bodily injury to another by force.” Police officers have special “privilege” to “apply the threat of force” in the case of a “lawful arrest.” The charge brought on the above police officer suggests that “threat of force” and/or the “lawful arrest” in this case are in question.
Even with a “privilege” under the law a police officer cannot assault someone without cause or reason. If you or someone you know as been a victim of assault and have been injured, you need a knowledgeable and passionate Colorado Personal Injury Attorney to assist you with all your legal options. The attorneys at The Daniel Law Firm have years of experience in personal injury law in Colorado, and they will put their experience to work for you. According to The Denver Post, a “9-month-old New Castle boy died in a car accident on Interstate 70 on Sunday after he was ejected from his car seat.” Investigators believe that the boy was not buckled into his seat at the time of the accident. They also believe that alcohol and drugs were not involved. The driver of the car, the boy’s mother, was wearing her seat belt and “was hospitalized with unknown injuries.” The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
For children between the ages of 2 and 14, automobile “accidents are the leading cause of death.” According to an article at articlebase, nearly 2,000 children die in car accidents every year and nearly 250,000 are injured. These fatalities represent 5% of all car accident fatalities.
The loss of a loved one is tragic and painful. The loss of child is devastating. A tree trimmer in Littleton was killed on Wednesday after the articulated boom he was in snapped and he fell about 30 feet. The Denver Post is reporting that the accident happened at about noon in the 5200 block of South Sherman Street. Littleton Fire Bureau Chief Jay Ruoff said the man was being lowered in the bucket when “basically the arm on the truck broke and came down and he was thrown out.”
According to the Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries, from 1992 to 2007, a total of 1,285 people were killed in tree-trimming accidents nationwide. Of these deaths, 42 percent occurred when a person was hit by a falling tree or branch. Another 34 percent were killed by a fall from a tree, while 14 percent were killed by electrocution.

A 21-year-old Aurora woman died after a rollover crash early Thursday morning. 9News.com reports that Yoana Rodriguez’s car rolled after swerving to avoid debris on Tower Road near 97th Avenue in Commerce City. Rodriguez was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. A 2-year-old girl whose identity has not been released survived the crash with minor injuries. Gary Mackey, who witnessed the accident, found the little girl strapped in her car sit and was able to pull her out of the wreckage. The crash remains under investigation.
According to a 2004 CBSNews.com report, road debris causes “25,000 accidents – and nearly 100 deaths – each year.” The report goes on to encourage drivers to be vigilant about securing loads in the back of trucks or strapped to the tops of cars, warns drivers to be on the look out for vehicles with loose or improperly secured loads of debris (avoiding driving too close to such vehicles), and adds that sometimes “it’s better to drive over small debris” than it is to swerve to avoid it.
If you or a loved one have been injured in an accident caused by debris in the road, you need to speak to a qualified Parker Personal Injury Attorney about your legal options. Often, an investigation by police and a attorney can determine those responsible or at fault and help you recover the compensation you are entitled to. The Daniel Law Firm has the experience and determination needed in cases like these. For a free consultation and review of your case contact us today at (303) 951-0233.

One person was killed and another injured following a two car collision in Aurora late Wednesday night. The Denver Post is reporting that the accident occurred around 11 p.m. at the intersection of East 6th Avenue and I-225. Aurora police investigators said that a Ford Escort was traveling east on 6th Avenue approaching the I-225 on-ramp when a Dodge Ram pickup turned to enter the on-ramp and collided with the Escort. Police Sgt. William Revelle said the driver of the Ford was injured and the passenger die at a local hospital. Revelle said that the driver of the pickup truck was not injured and it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the accident.

The Arapahoe County Administration Building in Littleton will house the Heart Gallery for the rest of the month of July. The Heart Gallery is a traveling exhibit produced by the Colorado Department of Human Services that aims to unite 102 foster home children with an adoptive family. Each of the 102 children were professionally photographed and the exhibit displays their photos as well as a written profile. According to the Centennial Citizen, the children chosen for the exhibition are “some of Colorado’s children who have been waiting the longest for an adoptive home.”
Prior to the gallery exhibition, Arapahoe and Jefferson counties created a collaborative foster-care program. Between the two counties, around 60 children are awaiting adoption at any given time. The Heart Gallery exhibit has already made a dent in this number. Five children from the collaborative program, who are part of the exhibit, have already found homes this month.
If you or somebody you know are considering adoption in the state of Colorado, you need a Colorado Adoption Attorney you can trust to help you understand and work through the process. At The Daniel Law Firm, you will find that attorney. For more information, contact us today at (303) 951-0233.
